Greater Scott County Chamber of Commerce Receives Grant

Greater Scott County Chamber of Commerce was awarded a $1,550 grant from the Scott County Community Foundation for the Dollars and $ense business program at Scottsburg Middle School. Shown are the Chamber’s education chair Syd Whitlock, Scottsburg Middle School guidance counselor Barb Decker and Scott County Community Foundation Board Chair Dale Hobbs. “Our eighth graders are incredibly interested in the world of money and finance,” said Decker. “In the program students learn about credit and debit benefits and pitfalls, about the businesses in Scott County, and how to apply for a loan. We know we’ve built a successful program when students want additional time to develop a spending plan, and are concerned about the effects of their future credit score! With these difficult economic times, it’s more important than ever to teach responsible personal finance. The Dollars and $ense program is able to make a difference at Scottsburg Middle School because of the support of the Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and the Community Foundation. Scottsburg Middle School thanks them for collaborating on this program for three years.” The Community Foundation awarded over $13,000 in grants this year, and will formally recognize recipients at the “Thanks4Giving” fall dinner on Nov. 13. |
