Foundation Awards Grants To Community
The Scott County Community Foundation has awarded over $60,000 in grants to several local agencies, announced grants committee chairperson Karen Payne. The recipients will be formally recognized at the Foundation’s fall dinner on Nov. 12. Over $28,000 was awarded from the unrestricted funds.
The organizations, the amount awarded and the purpose of the request are:

Austin High School Show Choir, $4,000 to assist with funding of the show choir and performing arts

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Scott County, $3,000 to provide one-to-one mentoring to at-risk students at Scottsburg Middle School

Court Appointed Special Advocates, $3,500 to better promote the need for CASA volunteers and provide support to children who have been abused or neglected

Indiana State Police, $3,354.50 to purchase a night vision monocular to use during nighttime operations

Scott County 4-H Council, $2,500 to allow youth of all ages to participate in 4-H

Scott County Partnership, $5,000 to provide adult basic education and GED classes

Scott County Partnership, $5,000 for the Clearinghouse to assist needy families with rent or utilities during the winter

Scott Memorial Hospital, $1,073.87 to educate the citizens of Scott County on the benefits of not smoking

Totes for Tots and Teens, $1,000 to provide children in the foster care system with a backpack and school supplies
In addition, the Board of Directors awarded $32,340 from the Scott County CAPE Educational Endowment Fund to the Scott County Partnership to continue educational initiatives.
“This year is no different when it comes to the amount of need for financial resources in our community,” said Executive Director L.L. Lowry. “With requests totaling $146,000 and the availability of almost $67,000, the grants committee always faces difficult decisions on which projects and programs to fund. We are pleased to be able to award grants to these organizations for their requests to make Scott County a better place.”
The grants were made possible from the Collins Family Fund, Addie Mae Graham Memorial Fund, Lauren Graham Memorial Fund, John and Janice Martin Unrestricted Fund, Dr. William and Diann Scott Unrestricted Fund, Scott County Immediate Response Fund, Scott County Memorial Fund and Scott County Community Foundation Permanent Unrestricted Endowment Fund. |
