New Scholarship to Benefit Students Majoring in Golf Course/Turf Management

Their passion of helping youth has resulted in a scholarship fund being created at the Scott County Community Foundation by Dave and Bonnie Church.

Bonnie Martin Church, a Scottsburg High School graduate and successful business woman, and mother of Marty and Carin, moved back to Scottsburg with her husband, Dave Church, in 2007. They became active in the Scottsburg United Methodist Church, where they provide support for the youth programs as well as a separate scholarship for students who are church members.

Dave and Bonnie enjoy spending time with their family and friends, while investing in various businesses, including the purchase of the Westwood Golf Course.

After they saw how the Scott County Youth Grantmaking Council, a program of the Scott County Community Foundation, was making a difference in the lives of youth, they decided to use the Foundation as a tool for their charitable giving.

“The Community Foundation with the Scott County Youth Grantmaking Council is building character and stressing to youth the importance of giving back to the community,” said the Churches. They decided they want to be part of that character-building process and reward deserving high school graduates with the opportunity to earn scholarship support. By establishing the Bonnie Church Scholarship Fund, they will help provide Scott County youth an opportunity for learning and training who might not otherwise have that opportunity.

The scholarship will be available this spring to a graduate of Austin or Scottsburg high school who has been active in community service. The $2,500 award will be given to students who plan to major in golf course or turf management.
