Math Students Will Benefit from Charles G. Nolan Memorial Scholarship

    Charles G. Nolan, 61, passed away at Chandler Medical Center University Hospital in Lexington, Ky., on June 23, 2008.
He was a math, computer and photography professor at Ivy Tech Community College in Sellersburg, Ind., and owner of Nolans’ Educational Consulting. He was a retired middle/high school teacher at Austin, Ind., a former GED instructor for New Albany/Floyd County School Corp. in Scottsburg, Ind., and the former owner of Loaves and Fishes Christian Bookstore in Scottsburg, Ind.

    Charles graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Ky., and received a Masters from Indiana University. He was an amateur astronomer and was a candidate for the Teacher in Space Program. He was an avid photographer, specializing in nature and wildflowers. He was a past president of the Austin Classroom Teachers Assoc. and the Scott County Friends of the Library, and was a member of the Scottsburg First Christian Church, Scott County Chamber of Commerce, Gideons International, Scott County Genealogical Society, Kentucky Society of Natural History and the Indiana Plant and Wildflower Society.

    A permanently endowed scholarship for Scott County students who major in mathematics has been established in memory of Charles at the Scott County Community Foundation. The scholarship will be available for any graduate in Scott County, including home-schooled students, and students may attend out-of-state or in-state 4-year colleges.

   Donations for the scholarship are tax-exempt and will be accepted on an ongoing basis. Contributions in his name may be made to the Scott County Community Foundation, 60 North Main Street, P.O.
