Students Interested In Giving Back To Community Invited To Apply To YGC
Are you between the ages of 12 and 18 and enjoy giving back to the community? The Scott County Youth Grantmaking Council (YGC) has four open seats for the upcoming school year. The goals of the YGC are to provide opportunities for leadership development, provide positive peer support, learn about philanthropy and serving the community, form a partnership with other youth and adults, and grow the endowment fund for the future.
Students must be in fifth grade or higher to be eligible, and home-schooled students are also eligible for membership. Members must be residents of Scott County or attend school in Scott County. Members are expected to attend monthly meetings in addition to serve on committees and attend various fundraisers, leadership training and community service projects.
YGC members are heavily involved in the community. They have collected numerous items over the years for We Care, Kids First, the Clearinghouse, A Soldier’s Friend, and more. They have participated in United Way of Scott County’s Day of Caring, Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake, Kids First auction and other projects. They have raised thousands of dollars for their operating and endowment funds, and have awarded about $10,000 in grants over the last three years for youth-related projects. They recently hosted their first Southern Indiana Youth Conference for other youth to learn skills to take back to their communities.
Applicants should be responsible, honest and respectful individuals who care about making Scott County a better place for all youth. If you are interested in joining, you may get more information from current YGC members Patricia Bacala, Carmen Boley, Brandon Boswell, Lindsey Boswell, Evan Comer, Kayla Griffen, Lauren Howser, Kevin Jentzen, Erin Lapp, Kaleb Mount, Joey Payne, Caity Rice, Jordan Shuler, Braxton Soloe, Hunter Steinkamp, Keeli Stewart, Jerel Taylor, Luke Taylor and Isaiah Turner.
Applications are due by Wednesday, September 8 to the Scott County Community Foundation, which facilitates the YGC. Interviews will be conducted in September at the Lifelong Learning Center, and students will become members October 1.
