Members Wanted for Youth Grantmaking Council

The Scott County Youth Grantmaking Council is currently accepting applications to be members. The goals of the Council are to provide opportunities for leadership development, provide positive peer support, learn about philanthropy and serving the community, form a partnership with other youth and adults, and grow the endowment fund for the future. In May, the Youth Council awarded almost $4,500 for youth-related projects in the community. Several members also attended a 2-day leadership and service conference in Indianapolis in July, and will attend the Children’s Museum in Indianapolis in August.

There are currently five seats available on the Council, and preference will be given to students in all elementary schools and Austin High School, as there are currently no members representing those schools. Students must be in fifth grade or higher to be eligible, and home-schooled students are also eligible for membership. Current Council members include Carmen Boley, Brandon Boswell, Olivia Freeman, Lauren Howser, Braxton Soloe and Hunter Steinkamp from Scottsburg Middle School, Evan Comer, outgoing President Ali Richey and Jerel Taylor from Scottsburg High School, Kayla Griffen and Caity Rice from Austin Middle School. Interested students may also contact these members for information on the Council.

The public relations committee will also host a booth at the Back to School Bash on August 4. Students interested in the Council may pick up information and an application. Applications are due in the Scott County Community Foundation office by Friday, Aug. 29.
