In an effort to assist nonprofits with capacity building, the Scott County Community Foundation will be hosting quarterly lunch and learn sessions. Board members, volunteers and staff of nonprofit organizations are highly encouraged to attend.

The second session in the series is ?Share the Love: Using Social Media to Engage Donors.? Did you know that 53 percent of donors lapse because of poor donor communication? Though social media has become pervasive among nonprofits, it is still used primarily for promotion. This session will help you discover how to maximize your nonprofit?s social media accounts through thankfulness, instead of promotion. Participants will examine real-life examples of effective social media usage from organizations large and small, as well as the latest research into what works and what doesn?t.

The session will be held on Tuesday, March 3 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Lifelong Learning Center. It will be led by Steven Shattuck, chief engagement officer with Bloomerang. Bloomerang?s core purpose is to improve donor retention in the nonprofit world. They create tools and teach principles that help passionate nonprofit organizations make smart decisions to help them grow and thrive. Shattuck curates Bloomerang?s educational content and hosts weekly webinar series topics. He volunteers for several organizations and sits on the faculty of the Institute for Charitable Giving. He is a co-author of Fundraising Principles and Practice: Second Edition. He graduated from Ball State University with a degree in telecommunications and creative writing.

Future sessions include ?The Keys To Volunteer Management? on June 16; and ?The Nonprofit Board of Directors That Works? on Sept. 15. Both sessions will be led by nonprofit consultant June Miller.

?We are pleased to continue our nonprofit workshops for the fourth year,? said Community Foundation Executive Director Jaime Toppe. ?We?ve really seen a growth in local nonprofits as they implement ideas they?ve learned, and they enjoy the networking provided through the sessions.?

?I advise staff and volunteer board members to support your organization by attending,? said Toppe. ?Our grants committee will look favorably upon organizations that apply for funding from the Community Foundation, and have shown a desire to build their organization?s capacity through attendance at these sessions.?

The cost for attending is $10 per person and includes lunch. Registration is due one day prior to the session, and can be made by calling the Scott County Community Foundation at 812-752-2057 or emailing info@www.scottcountyfoundation.org.
