Scott County Family YMCA CEO Ryan Penrod accepts a check for $30,000 from Mollie Collins and Kevin Collins on behalf of the Donald R. Collins Sr. Family Fund, an unrestricted fund at the Foundation.
The Scott County Community Foundation (SCCF) has awarded over $138,000 in grants to several local agencies during its 2014 Community Grants Program, announced grants committee chairperson Hank Jentzen.
The organizations, the amount awarded and the purpose of the request are:
- Austin Elementary School received $2,106.24 to purchase iPad minis for kindergarten students.
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Scott County received $1,000 to support their mentoring program.
- CASA of Scott County, $15,500 to hire staff to support volunteers of abused and neglected children
- Englishton Park, $7,000 to send seven Scott County children to a summer remediation camp
- Gleaners, $10,000 for the BackSacks program, which provides food to Scott County children every weekend during the school year
- Lexington Good Faith Preschool, $4,000 to provide free preschool to children in Lexington Township
- Scott County Family YMCA, $30,000 for pool repairs and equipment
- Scott County 4-H, $2,800 for the Lego Robotics program
- Scott County Partnership, $2,000 for the Clearinghouse to assist needy families with food
- Scott County Sheriff?s Posse, $3,600 to purchase a generation and equipment for the response trailer
- United Way of Scott County, $5,000 for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program
- WorkOne, $1,000 for a Hand-Up Scholarship, which assists Scott County Work One clients in achieving their academic career plan goals
The Donald R. Collins Sr. Family Fund was able to assist with funding for the Scott County Family YMCA?s grant. Through the Collins family?s membership in the Forever Tree Society, earnings from the family?s fund are able to support specific charitable projects in the community.
The Board of Directors also awarded $54,396 from the Scott County CAPE Educational Endowment Fund to the Scott County Partnership to continue educational initiatives.
The grants were also made possible from the Terry Fewell Memorial Unrestricted Fund, Addie Mae Graham Memorial Fund, Lauren Graham Memorial Fund, Hazel and Lowell Lowry Sr. Memorial Fund, L.L. and Juanita Lowry Unrestricted Fund, John and Janice Martin Unrestricted Fund, Dr. William and Diann Scott Unrestricted Fund, Scott County Immediate Response Fund, Scott County Memorial Fund and the Community Enrichment Fund.
