John and Janice Martin chose a very special way to commemorate their marriage. On August 3, 2002, they pledged to love and honor each other for all time, but they carried that vow one step further by creating an unrestricted endowment fund with the Foundation that will last forever.
?We wanted to share what we have with the community, and we both felt this was the best way to do that,? said Janice.
At the time, Lilly Endowment was matching all unrestricted gifts given to the Foundation, dollar for dollar, through the GIFT V program.
?People are not remembered for what they have but they are remembered by what they leave behind,? said John.
Every year when the Community Foundation holds its grants cycle to award funds to numerous organizations for wonderful projects, the John and Janice Martin Unrestricted Fund provides money to help, ensuring that the legacy of the Martin family will live on forever.
