Rachel Howser, 2008 graduate, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology |
" I recently graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology cum laude with a degree in civil engineering. I am very thankful to both the Scott County Community Foundation and the Lilly Endowment for allowing that to happen. Without their support, I would not have been able to attend Rose-Hulman. My last few months at Rose-Hulman has been a bittersweet experience. I was very active on campus, participating in nine extra-curricular activities and serving as an officer in many of them. I was especially active as secretary of one of these activities, the Cecil T. Lobo Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers. My chapter was awarded the Ridgway Award for earning the title of the best chapter in the nation. I won several personal awards for my service to the campus and would not trade my time at Rose-Hulman for anything. Now that I have graduated, I am moving to Taiwan for the next three months to participate in a research project. I am doing research in structural and earthquake engineering. In the fall, I will attend the University of Houston in Houston, Texas to begin on my master’s degree."
