Family: I have been married to Linda for 31 years. We have two sons, Joe, 25, and Andy, 23. Andy is married to Emily. They have been married for six months. Linda and I are both lifelong residents of Scott County.
Employment: I have been a farmer for the past 32 years and now farm 1,050 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat and tobacco. Linda is a branch office administrator for Edward Jones in Scottsburg.
Memberships: We are members of the Zoah Christian Church west of Scottsburg. I serve as Elder and have served in many offices at the church. I am preparing to leave Scott County Soil and Water Conservation District where I have been a supervisor for the past 25 years. I have held regional and area-wide offices for the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. I am currently on the IASWCD Board of Directors. In 1991, I was appointed by then Gov. Evan Bayh to serve on the Indiana State Conservation Board. I continued to serve for nine years on that board.
Why did you join the board? I was approached about becoming a board member in 2001. I learned about the SCCF in 2000 while unsuccessfully running for State Representative. Becky Wolf mentioned to me about the Foundation. I had lunch with Barb, she explained the workings of the Foundation, and asked me if I would accept a position on the board. I did and have served for five years, serving on committees and as Chairman two years.
What do you like about the Foundation? The main thing I like about the Foundation is the forever part. Being part of something that will last forever is really a cool thing. Knowing that 100 or even 500 years from now the work of the SCCF will continue.
What are some fond memories you have of serving over the years? I have met some very nice people over the course of my terms, people that I might not have met if it weren't for my involvement with SCCF. |
