Kathy Bayes, left, awards a $182 grant to Symantha Norton of Austin Elementary School. The grant was awarded from the Dottie Shelhamer Memorial Fund at the Scott County Community Foundation. Kathy established the endowment fund in memory of her mother, who taught and coached at Austin High School for 42 years. The fund provides support to charitable projects in the community each year. Norton will use the grant to purchase flexible seating to keep her third grade students engaged in the classroom. ?Mom loved Austin schools,? said Bayes. ?She would love Sym’s love of kids and her passion for teaching.?
