2025 Lilly Scholar – Isabella Cox

Isabella Cox
2025 graduate of Scottsburg High School
Attending the University of Evansville to major in elementary education
“I completed my freshman year of college! Since beginning in the fall, I have become comfortable with the University of Evansville, and my major in general. I have had several internships in classrooms at Caze Elementary, McCutchanville Elementary, and Rockport Elementary schools, teaching math, science and reading. I was also fortunate enough to have classes to prepare me for teaching through modeling and writing lesson plans, knowing the difference between procedural and conceptual learning, and even how to handle disruptive behavior in a classroom setting.
I spent my weekdays participating in Pep band, community band, and holiday band, as well as Delight (a women’s Bible study), and a couple fitness classes at our university gym (pilates and yoga). I also was able to volunteer with the organization, Junior Achievement, to go into elementary classrooms and teach the importance of community and economics through their JA instruction kits. This year has been extremely rewarding academically, and socially as I have been able to branch out of my comfort zone and become close friends with my roommates. I am tremendously grateful for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for providing a wonderful first year of college.”
