Scott County Community Foundation was awarded a $50,000 grant from Samtec Cares during their 2025 grants cycle. Shown are Scott County Family YMCA board member Carmen Boley and Scott County Community Foundation Executive Director Jaime Toppe with a Samtec Cares representative.

The grant will be matched with $50,000 through an opportunity from Lilly Endowment Inc. It will be used for the Scott County Family YMCA, which is constructing a new state-of-the-art daycare facility and multi-purpose areas.

The YMCA will convert their unusable pool area into 10,000 square feet of renovated space, construct a 15,000-square-foot playground, an outdoor parking area, and create additional gym space, multi-purpose and meeting rooms. They plan to have up to five classrooms to house 85 children ages 6 months and older.

According to the Community Needs Assessment that was released last year by the Community Foundation, there are about 1,117 children under the age of six in Scott County whose parents both work, with only a few hundred registered childcare slots.

“We are so excited to be a partner in this crucial project for Scott County,” said Community Foundation Executive Director Jaime Toppe. “This supports our Early Childhood Committee’s goal to ensure that every child in Scott County receives high-quality, safe, and developmentally appropriate care from birth to age five. We are incredibly thankful to Samtec Cares for their generosity. We understand there were many worthy applicants, so we are honored to have been selected this year!”

Samtec Cares has given over $709,000 in grants in 2025 and almost $5.5 million to over 175 organizations since the inception of the grant program in 2018.
