Scott County Community Foundation board member Jamie Longacre, right, presents a check for $6,232 to Humane Society of Scott County volunteer Kelley Barger. The grant was awarded from the Dr. William and Diann Scott Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation and will be used to help with the medical and physical needs of the dogs and cats, as well as offset additional costs of spaying and neutering animals.

The Humane Society was able to help 447 dogs and cats get adopted or sent to no-kill rescue partners to find forever homes last year. There are currently 32 cats at the adoption center and additional adoptable cats at the animal shelter, along with 11 dogs in foster homes and 10 at the animal shelter that are patiently waiting for new homes. Visit https://hsscottcountyin.com/ to view animals that are waiting for their forever homes. Starting this year, all adopted animals will be microchipped. The Humane Society is always looking for pet-loving volunteers as well.
