Scott County Community Foundation Executive Director Jaime Toppe presents a check for $3,900 to Austin High School Alumni Association members Ishmael White and Rick Rigel. The grant was awarded from the AHS Alumni Education Fund at the Foundation and will be used to provide scholarships to students.

Fun fact: the picture was taken in front of a desk that has been used at Austin High School for 76 years, primarily by math teachers. The first was the legendary Emory “Jack” Buzzard. He scored the first two points made by an Austin basketball player in 1914, coached Austin to its first Sectional Championship in 1928-29, and taught math from the 1920’s through the 1960’s. Other math teachers who have used this desk were Robert “Daddy Rabbit” Cathcart and Andy “Dude” Watts. It is currently being used by the ever famous Ricky Rigel, who has taught and coached at Austin since the 1970’s.
