Scott County Community Foundation is hosting a special event for their women’s philanthropy initiative, which is heading into its second year. The group is designed to foster connection among women as they come together to champion causes that matter to them. Women will meet quarterly to socialize, learn, and inspire one another.
The next event will be a sip and paint with artist Susanna Bard. Attendees will go step-by-step to paint “Garden Flowers in Blue and White Vase,” a Chinoiserie-inspired vase with a colorful flower arrangement. Students will follow along, during a hands-on demonstration, to complete their very own painted canvas.
This special event will be held Tuesday, Aug. 25 from 6-8 p.m. at The 82 Building, 82 E. McClain Ave., Scottsburg. The cost is $35 for members, and $40 for non-members, with registration due by Aug. 17. Each guest will receive a charcuterie box. Susanna Bard, painter, fiber artist, cook, teacher – no matter what title she’s pursuing, as long as she’s creating, she’s happy. Small towns and farm life in southern Indiana provided the backdrop for Susanna’s love of flowers, which can be seen in much of her work. Sharing this with others is a source of joy! Susanna holds a bachelor of arts degree in studio art from Hanover College, and has shown her work in galleries and businesses in multiple states.
Members of Scott County Women’s Philanthropy will learn about causes in Scott County and determine which organizations to fund using part of their membership fee. Scott County Partnership was awarded the first-ever grant by members this May. They received $2,875 for a vending machine filled with hygiene and healthcare products at the Clearinghouse. Fifty-seven members made this grant possible.
“Our team was overwhelmed by the amazing support from the women of Scott County during the first year of our Women’s Philanthropy group; it exceeded all of our expectations,” said Committee Chair Jennifer Coward. “We are looking forward to another great year of coming together for fun and for a cause and look forward to meeting even more women who are passionate about making a difference in their community!”
