Stephanie Napier

The Scott County Community Foundation is celebrating our 20th anniversary in 2017. Throughout the year, we will share stories from people who have been impacted by the efforts of our donors and volunteers. This story is provided by Stephanie Napier, a recipient of our Education Matters adult scholarship.

Stephanie is an LPN for Scott Memorial Hospital Physicians Services. While she holds her licensed practical nurse diploma, she is continuing her education at Ivy Tech Community College in the hopes of becoming a registered nurse.

?For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a nurse. I have always had a passion for taking care of people, even as a child. When I was in first grade, my teacher sent home a letter to my parents, describing me as a mother hen, always taking care of my chicks. I have a drive to go places in my life. I know that there is so much more opportunity out there for nurses. I love to learn new things and educate others as well. I realize the only way I will reach my goals is to continue my education and become a Registered Nurse. This scholarship helped me with the financial stress that an adult student faces.

I was very happy and appreciative of the scholarship. This made it possible for me to continue to build upon my career goals.? I can?t say that furthering my education has been an easy journey. I always depended on my dad?s words of encouragement when it came to my education. No matter what obstacles get in your way, climb over them and show them who the true boss really is.

Scott County Community Foundation went above and beyond to assist me in every way possible. ?The staff is very compassionate about what they do. As an adult with no dependents, it can be very trying when furthering your education. ?Anytime I reached out to the staff at the Scott County Community Foundation, I was instantly relieved of the stress that I was feeling at the time.

There have been many times I have doubted or lacked confidence in going back to school.? However, I felt nothing other than encouragement by the Foundation. ?If ever I have a question, I know I can always contact the staff and they will work diligently to provide the answers to me, or put me in touch with someone else who does.

I understand the value of higher education and the impact it can have on my life. Once again, I would like to express my gratitude to the Scott County Community Foundation Board and Staff for your assistance with furthering my adult education.?
