In an effort to assist nonprofits with capacity building, the Scott County Community Foundation will be hosting quarterly lunch and learn sessions. Board members, volunteers and staff of nonprofit organizations are highly encouraged to attend.

The first session in the series, ?IRS and Other Filing Requirements,? will discuss an overview of IRS annual filing requirements, information on unrelated business income and filing thresholds, Indiana filing requirements, and discussions related to property taxes and exemption applications. It will be held on Thursday, Nov. 21 from 11 a.m. until noon at the Lifelong Learning Center.

The session will be led by Kandy Wischmeier, CPA, Tax Manager. Kandy works at Blue & Co., LLC in the Seymour office.? With over 21 years of experience, Kandy provides a variety of tax services to corporations, trusts, partnerships, individuals and not-for-profits.? Kandy specializes in not-for-profits.? Services provided include general consulting, obtaining tax-exempt status, Form 990 preparation, unrelated business income consulting and Form 990T preparation, state reporting and foreign reporting.? Kandy serves over 80 not-for-profit organizations throughout Indiana and Kentucky, which are comprised of public charities, private foundations, community foundations and trade associations.? Kandy is a member of the AICPA and the INCPA Society.? She also serves on the board of the Brownstown Senior Citizens.

Future sessions include ?Share the Love: Using Social Media to Engage Donors? by Steven Shattuck on March 3; ?The Keys To Volunteer Management? by June Miller on June 16; and ?The Nonprofit Board of Directors That Works? by June Miller on Sept. 15.

?We are pleased to continue our nonprofit workshops for the fourth year,? said Community Foundation Executive Director Jaime Toppe. ?We?ve really seen a growth in local nonprofits as they implement ideas they?ve learned, and they enjoy the networking provided through the sessions.?

?I advise staff and volunteer board members to support your organization by attending,? said Toppe. ?Our grants committee will look favorably upon organizations that apply for funding from the Community Foundation, and have shown a desire to build their organization?s capacity through attendance at these sessions.?
